A new teaching facility for the University of Nottingham.
The structure comprises a four storey exposed reinforced concrete frame with a central full height atrium, glazed lift shaft and ETFE roof with feature steel trusses. The curved facades are clad with closely spaced aluminium tubes to give a dramatic appearance.
The structure was designed using traditionally reinforced concrete flat slabs and uses the stair cores for lateral stability. The floor plans increase in size up the building requiring increasing cantilevers to the slabs at each level. Rainwater harvesting and storm water attenuation are included in the drainage design.
Numerous architectural features are incorporated into the building including the glazed lift shaft, patterned concrete to the stair cores, curved facades and exposed high level steelwork to support the roof.
